What To Expect
It can be challenging visiting a church for the first time so this page is meant to give you a glimpse inside Augustana as you prepare for your visit!
On Sunday mornings we invite you to come as you are. You will find some people in dresses and suits and others in jeans and sweatshirts. There is no dress code. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in and join us on a Sunday morning. We will not ask visitors to stand up or wear a name tag. Plan to arrive 10 minutes early as the parking lot can be crowded and you may need a few extra minutes. The worship service usually lasts 50 to 55 minutes.
We invite you to stop by the Information Kiosk and pick up a Welcome Packet where you will find helpful information about Augustana and our mission and programming. If you have further questions, you will always find a friendly and knowledgeable person at the Information Center. There is always coffee available in the hallway near the fellowship hall but we respectfully ask that you enjoy it outside of the sanctuary.
Children in Worship
We believe children are a vital part of the Augustana community and offer many options for them on Sunday morning.
Children of all ages are welcome to attend worship services. Worship bags are available for children whose attention span is still growing. These bags can be found just outside of the nursery entrance and include worship-related activities, a gospel-centered children’s bulletin and a section for parents on ways to include their children in the worship experience. After worship simply return the bag to the rack.
During Sunday worship services, nursery care is available for children 3 years old and younger, from 9:30 to 10:45 am. Our goal is to provide a loving Christian environment for your child while you worship.
During the 8:30 and 11:00 am worship services, the nursery is available, but not staffed. You may accompany your child in the nursery during either of these service. During the 8:30 service you may listen to the worship service through an intercom system.
Holy Communion, also called the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper, is the part of our worship life we believe sustains followers of Jesus Christ on their faith journeys. God’s gifts of grace, forgiveness, and new life received through faith, come in this meal.
Augustana invites all who believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior to participate as his guest at his table. Those who do not yet commune are welcome to come forward and receive a blessing. Gluten free wafers are always available.
Holy Communion at Augustana is received in two ways:
- Intinction where you are directed by the ushers to form a line to receive a wafer then proceed to dip it in a chalice of wine and return to your seat.
- Full table where you are directed by the ushers to stand around the chancel (front of the church). You receive a wafer and a small individual cup of wine.
Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of every month, and occasionally at other times throughout the month at the 8:30 and 9:45 am services and every Sunday at the 11:00 am service.
