Augustana Lutheran Church is a vibrant, caring and growing community of over 2200 baptized members in all stages of life. We are part of the of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). As a member of the ELCA, Augustana is related to over 11,000 congregations in the United States and Caribbean, representing approximately 5,000,000 individuals. The national church, along with the St. Paul Area Synod provides guidance and support to Augustana.
The ministry of Augustana began on South Robert Street over 100 years ago, and we continue to grow and change with each passing year. We are committed to providing meaningful, Christ-centered worship, mission opportunities to serve globally and locally, and the chance to build deeper relationships with other Christians.
Our Lutheran Tradition
As a congregation of the ELCA we believe in basic principles of Martin Luther’s theological teachings. We believe:
- We are saved the grace of God alone.
- We are not saved by anything that we do. Our salvation is through faith alone.
- We live our lives trusting God who in Christ promises us forgiveness, life and salvation.
- We are centered in the Bible which guides our faith and life.
Seeking to grow in faith, we proclaim, celebrate and share Jesus Christ with all!
Our Core Values
Inspire, challenge and empower God’s people through Christ-centered worship
The heart of our life together is worship. We seek to equip you to go back out into your life inspired and challenged.
Discover all that a personal relationship with Christ offers
Developing your faith never stops! We offer a variety of educational and spiritual opportunities for people of all ages.
Connect people in all phases of life in a dynamic Christian community
From joyfully welcoming a baby into your family to experiencing life’s difficult challenges, the Augustana community is deeply committed to walking with you.
Care and Serve others through compassionate outreach
We are called to use all of our resources to reach out with love to all people at Augustana, in our community of West St. Paul, and our world.
Ridiculous generosity in all things reflecting God’s generosity to us
We believe that all things come from a good and gracious God and that God’s grace is the source of all our good ideas, energy, effort, and results. Generosity is a top priority at Augustana. As part of our financial ministry, each year we commit to give away (outside of our doors) 20% of member commitments. We are proud to be one of the top 10 congregations in the country (out of over 11,000) in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Americal (ELCA) for mission support.
Support and expand our local and global partnerships
We believe that service to our neighbor and world must be an integral part of our lives. Augustana has established and maintains long-term and meaningful relationships with local service organizations. For over 25 years we have had partnerships with a variety of churches, schools and health facilities in Tanzania and Guatemala.
Honor God by ensuring that all we do is gospel-based and relevant
At Augustana we strive to “keep the main thing, the main thing,” always asking, are we keeping the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the main thing.
One more thing we would like you to know . . .
Music is an essential part of worship and who we are at Augustana. We have a long tradition of high quality music in worship and the concerts we offer to the community.
