Pastoral Care
If you are in need of care or prayer or would like to request a hospital visit, please complete the Connection Card on Sunday morning or contact the church office. If you call after office hours, you may leave a confidential voicemail message using the extensions in the sidebar.
Through the Sacrament of Holy Communion, God’s gifts of grace, forgiveness, and new life are brought to those who cannot attend worship due to health or other circumstances. Each month the pastoral care team brings Communion to members in care facilities or hospitals, or those unable to leave their own homes.
Prayer
Daily prayer is an intentional and meaningful way to strengthen and nurture our personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It is our daily conversation with God. Through prayer, both individually and as a faith community, we open ourselves to the guidance, wisdom, and power of the Holy Spirit. Prayers also bring comfort during life’s challenges and gratitude for blessings received. Augustana offers the following opportunities to shape and encourage your prayer life. Click here to request prayer support or call the church office at 651.457.3373.
Faith Community Prayer
Faith Community Prayer is available at Augustana in two ways:
- Intercessory Prayer Team (The Weavers) confidentially pray for the needs of others. Click here to request prayer support or call the church office at 651.457.3373.
- Weekly prayers of the church are offered during worship services each Sunday. Prayer petitions may include prayers for healing, celebration, sorrow, congregational partners, local mission partners, and current events.
Prayer Chapel
Prayer Chapel is a dedicated quiet space is for individual and small group meditation. Prayer books and other resources are available. Sacred space is created with an altar, hand-carved trifold depicting the 12 apostles and lots of natural light. The room is available during church office hours.
Labyrinth & Healing Garden
Augustana’s Labyrinth and Healing Garden are located in the wooded area on Augustana’s south lawn. The Labyrinth is an ancient spiritual tool used for walking meditation/prayer. It is a way to quiet our minds, center our thoughts, and shut out the distractions of our busy lives. You are encouraged to follow the path to the center, letting go of daily struggles, worries, and fears as you walk. Some who walk the Labyrinth find joy, others discover comfort from grief or relief from stress, while others use it as a prayer tool to communicate with God.
The Healing Garden is a unique environment of beauty, silence, and serenity that nurtures the body, mind, and spirit. It is a place to think, pray, grieve, hope, give thanks, and to remember.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Prayer Shawl Ministry combines the love of knitting and crocheting with prayer and outreach. With every stitch, the shawl maker weaves prayers and blessings until the shawl is completed. Shawls are delivered to members in the hospital or anyone experiencing a life challenge. For information or tips, patterns, and instructions, visit shawlministry.com. To get involved or request a prayer shawl for someone, contact Joann Arneberg, Faith Community Nurse, 651.457.3373 or jarneberg@augustana.com.
