We want to make your first visit easy and engaging.
Sundays
Worship
During the school year, we offer two styles of worship on Sunday mornings: The more traditional style uses pipe organ, liturgy, and choirs at 8:30 and 9:45 am in the Sanctuary. A contemporary service uses keyboard, guitars, and drums at 11:00 am in the Fellowship Hall.
During the summer we offer two worship experiences. At 9:00 am we gather in the Augustana parking lot for Drive-In worship. Tune your radio to 90.1 FM to listen to the service. At 10:00 we gather in the Sanctuary for traditional worship.
We invite you to come as you are. You will find some people in dresses and suits and others in jeans and sweatshirts. There is no dress code. Be comfortable! We will not ask visitors to stand up or wear a name tag. Plan to arrive 10 minutes early as the parking lot can be crowded and you may need a few extra minutes. The worship service usually lasts 50 to 55 minutes.
Children in Worship
Children are a vital part of the Augustana community and warmly encouraged to attend worship services. We expect them to make noise and need to wiggle; they are growing in understanding and learning to be part of the church family. Jesus himself said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.” (Matthew 19:14).
Worship bags are available for children whose attention span is still growing. These bags can be found outside the nursery entrance and include worship-related activities, a Gospel-centered children’s bulletin, and a section for parents on ways to include their children in the worship experience. After worship, please return the bag to the rack.
In case you or your child needs a break from worship, our Family Lounge is now open during all three services on Sunday morning. Formerly known as the nursery, the family lounge is available to use with parental supervision. Worship audio is available in the Family Lounge.
Holy Communion
Holy Communion is the part of our worship life that sustains followers of Jesus Christ. Augustana invites all who believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior to participate as his guest at his table. Holy Communion is usually celebrated on the first Sunday of every month and occasionally at other times throughout the month at the 8:30 and 9:45 am services. Communion is available every Sunday at the 11:00 am service. Those who do not yet commune are welcome to come forward and receive a blessing. Gluten-free wafers are always available.
Holy Communion at Augustana is received in two ways: 1) With intinction, you are directed by the ushers to form a line towards the front of the church. There you will receive a wafer, dip it in a chalice of wine, and return to your seat; 2) With full table, you are directed by the ushers to stand around the chancel (front of the church) while you receive a wafer and a small individual cup of wine or grape juice.
